Torre La Moreira is a vegan Albariño from Rías Baixas, grown on a 40 hectare estate at Arbo in the Miño valley. Part of the must is cold soaked on skins before fermentation, giving ripe apple and pear, citrus and a herbal, saline lift.
Description
Torre La Moreira is made by Marqués de Vizhoja in D.O. Rías Baixas, north of Pontevedra in Galicia, from 100 percent Albariño grown on a 40 hectare estate at La Moreira, in the municipality of Arbo. This is the inland Condado do Tea subzone, set back from the coast along the Miño river, where the maritime Atlantic climate is a touch warmer and drier and the granite based soils drain freely. High rainfall and humidity make canopy work and hand selection important, and the fruit is picked and sorted by hand. Before fermentation part of the must is macerated cold on its skins, which draws out extra aromatic precursors and a little more texture while the low temperature guards freshness. Fermentation then proceeds in stainless steel to preserve the fruit. The wine is pale straw with green glints and an intense nose of ripe apple and pear, fresh herbs and delicate citrus. The palate is fresh and dry, with Albariño's stonefruit weight, bright acidity and a saline, faintly herbal finish typical of Atlantic Galicia. This wine is certified vegan. Serve at 8 to 10 degrees. It is built for seafood.
