Description
A distillery bottling of Tormore, a 16 year old Speyside malt from 2009, drawn from cask 44031 and bottled at 47.4%. Only 272 bottles were released. Tormore, built in 1958 by Long John Distillers near Grantown-on-Spey in Speyside, is one of Scotland's most striking distilleries. Purifiers on the spirit stills keep the spirit light and clean.
It was worked through swan neck stills with purifiers, for the light, clean, nutty make Tormore is known for. Maturation came in ex-Bourbon wood, with vanilla under the orchard fruit. By this age the light spirit rounds into nutty fruit and a soft honey. The unpeated spirit lets the wood and the fruit speak without smoke. Tormore is cleaner than the waxy Clynelish, with more weight than the lightest Speysiders. The new owners released a Blueprint Series of 10 year olds in 2025 ahead of a full range. Its rise in 1958 broke a long pause in distillery building that had lasted decades.
Bottled at a cask strength 47.4%, it is rich. A nutty, orchard fruit sweetness sit alongside a quiet vanilla from the refill oak. A green apple and a citrus note lift it. A nutty, gently spiced finish lingers. This is the architectural jewel of Speyside in a glass.
