Tormore 8 Years Old 2011 Càrn Mòr Strictly Limited Edition (Morrison and MacKay)

Morrison and MacKay selected this Tormore matured to 8 year old from 2011 and bottled at 46%. Only 430 bottles were released. Tormore was founded in 1958 in Speyside, near the Cairngorms; it is a listed building, the white cathedral of Speyside. The granite buildings carry copper roofs and a musical clock that plays four Scottish songs each quarter hour.

Distilled on soft Speyside water through purifier stills, building the firm, clean Tormore style. It was matured in refill ex-Bourbon oak, lending honey and vanilla. Still young, the malt is light and nutty with a citrus lift. The slow loss of the angel's share concentrates the nutty, citrussy core over time. For most of its life its spirit vanished quietly into blends rather than into bottles of its own. Elixir Distillers bought Tormore in 2022 and are reviving it as a single malt brand. Most of the spirit matures off site, much of it in refill ex-Bourbon wood.

Reduced to 46%, it is mellow. A light, nutty fruitiness meet honeyed oak sweetness underneath. Beneath it run almond, apple and a soft spice. Green apple and almond draw out the close. This is a light, nutty Speyside single malt.
