Description
From The Whisky Agency comes this Tormore, a 32 year old Speyside malt from 1988 and bottled at 47.1%. The outturn was 187 bottles. Set beneath the Cromdale Hills in Speyside, Tormore has distilled since 1960. It was granted listed building status in 1986, rare for a distillery so young.
The spirit was run through purifier stills for a light, clean spirit, to build a clean, citrussy, almond edged character. Ex-Bourbon casks held it, soft oak that lets the nut and fruit lead. Very old Tormore turns profound, waxy and nutty yet still clean. The light, ester rich make takes cask character well across maturation. The distillery sits near Grantown-on-Spey, in sight of the Cromdale Hills. Tormore is cleaner than the waxy Clynelish, with more weight than the lightest Speysiders. The new owners released a Blueprint Series of 10 year olds in 2025 ahead of a full range.
Bottled at a cask strength 47.1%, it is rich. A nutty, orchard fruit sweetness sit alongside soft vanilla and honey from the cask. It is fine and nutty, the fruit and oak well matched. A long, nutty finish carries a citrus lift. This is the architectural jewel of Speyside in a glass.
