Tormore 30 Years Old 1988 Cask #51-B (Jack Wiebers Whisky World)

Jack Wiebers Whisky World bottled this Tormore single malt, a 30 year old Speyside malt from 1988, drawn from cask 51-B and bottled at 48.8%. Only 183 bottles were released. Tormore, completed in 1960 in Speyside, near the Cairngorms, is one of Scotland's most striking distilleries. Water comes from the Achvochkie Burn, flowing off the granite hills above.

Distilled on soft Speyside water through purifier stills, building the firm, clean Tormore style. It was matured in refill ex-Bourbon oak, lending honey and vanilla. At this great age the malt is full and waxy, the nut deep and the oak polished. Most Tormore matures off site, much of it in refill ex-Bourbon. The soft water runs through heather and peat and granite before reaching the distillery. The distillery doubled from four stills to eight in 1972, then settled back to four pairs. It has used wood chips from local forestry to fire its stills since 1984.

At a natural 48.8% it is full and nutty. Melon, nut and a grassy note sit alongside honeyed oak sweetness underneath. It is clean and structured, the nutty spirit shining through. A nutty, gently spiced finish lingers. This is Tormore's clean, nutty Speyside style.
