Description
This is a Tormore single malt, chosen and bottled by Murray McDavid, aged 29 year old from 1995, drawn from cask 2310012 and bottled at 42.8%. Just 139 bottles were filled. First built between 1958 and 1960 on the A95 in the heart of Speyside, Tormore is a grand Speyside distillery. Water comes from the Achvochkie Burn, flowing off the granite hills above.
Distilled in swan neck stills fitted with purifiers, on soft Achvochkie Burn water, giving the structured, nutty Speyside spirit. An ex-Bourbon barrel shaped it, gentle American oak beneath the fruit. Past twenty years the spirit turns honeyed and nutty while keeping its clarity. Years in oak round the spirit, the nut and orchard fruit deepening with age. A workers' village was built nearby in the same striking style. Heat recovery condensers and sub coolers run alongside the purifier stills. The soft water runs through heather and peat and granite before reaching the distillery.
At cask strength 42.8% it is muscular yet clean. The refill oak lending honey and vanilla runs under a clean, nutty character. A dried fruit and a dry oak spice give it depth. The finish runs light, citrussy and fresh. This is a structured, nutty Speysider.
