Description
This is a Tormore single malt, chosen and bottled by Signatory Vintage, a 29 year old release from 1988, drawn from cask 15586 + 15593 and bottled at 45.8%. Just 296 bottles were filled. Set a mile south of the River Spey, Tormore has distilled since 1960. Purifiers on the spirit stills keep the spirit light and clean.
It was drawn off the distillery's swan neck stills with their purifiers, for a delicate, ester rich spirit. An ex-Bourbon barrel shaped it, gentle American oak beneath the fruit. Beyond twenty years the malt grows deep and waxy, almond, dried fruit and a polished oak over the citrus. Clean, citrussy spirit and a long maturation make for a structured malt. Tormore is cleaner than the waxy Clynelish, with more weight than the lightest Speysiders. The new owners released a Blueprint Series of 10 year olds in 2025 ahead of a full range. Its rise in 1958 broke a long pause in distillery building that had lasted decades.
At cask strength 45.8% it is muscular yet clean. A gentle vanilla from the wood runs under a clean, nutty character. A dried fruit and a dry oak spice give it depth. A gently drying, nutty finish lingers. This is a structured, nutty Speysider.
