Description
This Tormore was from the independent bottler Gordon & MacPhail, aged 27 year old from 1995, drawn from cask 5384 and bottled at 59.1%. A release of 584 bottles. First built between 1958 and 1960 on the A95 in the heart of Speyside, Tormore is a grand Speyside distillery. The granite buildings carry copper roofs and a musical clock that plays four Scottish songs each quarter hour.
Distilled in swan neck stills fitted with purifiers, on soft Achvochkie Burn water, giving the structured, nutty Speyside spirit. A sherry cask wrapped the light spirit in dried fruit and a nutty depth. Past twenty years the spirit turns honeyed and nutty while keeping its clarity. Sherry wood suits the light make, lending dried fruit and a nutty depth. Its granite buildings, copper roofs and musical clock earned it listed status in 1986.
Bottled at a cask strength 59.1%, it is rich. Sherried dried fruit and a nutty edge come through, and the refill oak lending honey and vanilla, with almond, apple and a clean citrus. The mouthfeel is light, the fruit carried on a nutty body. The finish runs light, citrussy and fresh. This is a Speysider from the white cathedral of the Spey.
