Single malt Tormore, an independent The Single Cask Ltd bottling, aged 23 year old from 1995, drawn from cask 20095A and bottled at 50.8%. 102 bottles in all. Tormore, completed in 1960 on the A95 in the heart of Speyside, is one of Scotland's most striking distilleries. Water comes from the Achvochkie Burn, flowing off the granite hills above.

Distilled in swan neck stills fitted with purifiers, on soft Achvochkie Burn water, giving the structured, nutty Speyside spirit. Maturation came in ex-Bourbon wood, with vanilla under the orchard fruit. Beyond twenty years the malt grows deep and waxy, almond, dried fruit and a polished oak over the citrus. Clean, citrussy spirit and a long maturation make for a structured malt. It has used wood chips from local forestry to fire its stills since 1984. For most of its life its spirit vanished quietly into blends rather than into bottles of its own.

At 50.8%, undiluted, it is deep and nutty. The refill oak lending honey and vanilla runs under green apple, nut and a soft spice. Beneath it run almond, apple and a soft spice. Green apple and almond draw out the close. This is a light, almond edged Speyside single malt.
