Tormore 20 Years Old 1995 Cask #20143 (Single Cask Collection)

Single malt Tormore, an independent Single Cask Collection bottling, aged 20 year old from 1995, drawn from cask 20143 and bottled at 53.1%. A release of 220 bottles. Founded in 1958 a mile south of the River Spey, Tormore is a grand Speyside distillery. Elixir Distillers bought it in 2022 and are reviving it as a single malt brand.

It was drawn off the distillery's swan neck stills with their purifiers, for a delicate, ester rich spirit. A refill American oak cask held it, keeping the clean character to the fore. Around the mid teens the malt gains a fuller nutty depth over the citrus. A patient maturation suits the light, nutty Tormore character. A workers' village was built nearby in the same striking style. Heat recovery condensers and sub coolers run alongside the purifier stills. The soft water runs through heather and peat and granite before reaching the distillery. The distillery doubled from four stills to eight in 1972, then settled back to four pairs.

At its natural 53.1% it is concentrated. A gentle vanilla from the wood runs under green apple, nut and a soft spice. Beneath it run almond, apple and a soft spice. A nutty, gently spiced finish lingers. This is a light, almond edged Speyside single malt.
