Description
A Tormore single malt, selected and bottled by 82 Chapters to Newcastle (82NC), aged 14 year old and bottled at 60.2%. The outturn was 191 bottles. Built in the late 1950s beneath the Cromdale Hills in Speyside, Tormore is a grand Speyside distillery. It was the first new malt distillery built in Scotland in the 20th century, raised for the booming Long John blend.
The spirit was run through purifier stills for a light, clean spirit, to build a clean, citrussy, almond edged character. A sherry butt held it, the wood lending raisin and walnut. Past a decade the nut deepens into almond, honey and a riper orchard fruit. The unpeated spirit lets the wood and the fruit speak without smoke. The architect Sir Albert Richardson gave it a grand, ornamental design unlike any other distillery. Its granite buildings, copper roofs and musical clock earned it listed status in 1986.
At a full 60.2% it is intense yet nutty. The Oloroso brings dried fruit, fig and a nutty depth, and apple, citrus and a soft almond meet soft vanilla and honey from the cask. Soft orchard fruit and nut sit behind the sweetness. It finishes clean, fresh and nutty. This is a clean, citrussy Speyside single malt.
