Description
Bottled by The Stillman's DE, this Tormore matured to 13 year old from 2011, drawn from cask 800112 and bottled at 53.5%. The outturn was 89 bottles. Set a mile south of the River Spey, Tormore has distilled since 1960. Elixir Distillers bought it in 2022 and are reviving it as a single malt brand.
It was drawn off the distillery's swan neck stills with their purifiers, for a delicate, ester rich spirit. It rested in ex-Bourbon oak, the wood adding a light honeyed sweetness. Mid age brings a deeper honey and a riper, nuttier fruit. The cool Speyside climate gives a slow, even maturation over the years. The distillery sits near Grantown-on-Spey, in sight of the Cromdale Hills. Tormore is cleaner than the waxy Clynelish, with more weight than the lightest Speysiders. The new owners released a Blueprint Series of 10 year olds in 2025 ahead of a full range. Its rise in 1958 broke a long pause in distillery building that had lasted decades.
At its natural 53.5% it is concentrated. A gentle vanilla from the wood, with pear, almond and a citrus lift. It is clean and structured, the nutty spirit shining through. It closes clean, nutty and dry. This is the malt of Speyside's white cathedral.
