Description
Single malt Tormore, an independent Campbeltown Whisky Company Ltd bottling, a 12 year old from 2010 and bottled at 59.3%. 222 bottles in all. Tormore was completed in 1960 a mile south of the River Spey, and its single malt is being revived under new ownership. It was designed by Sir Albert Richardson, a President of the Royal Academy, in a grand ornamental style.
It was drawn off the distillery's swan neck stills with their purifiers, for a delicate, ester rich spirit. It rested in ex-Bourbon oak, the wood adding a light honeyed sweetness. At this age the spirit is fresh and nutty, the apple and citrus bright. Clean, citrussy spirit and a long maturation make for a structured malt. The architect Sir Albert Richardson gave it a grand, ornamental design unlike any other distillery. Its granite buildings, copper roofs and musical clock earned it listed status in 1986.
Bottled at a cask strength 59.3%, it is rich. A gentle vanilla from the wood runs under green apple, nut and a soft spice. It is fine and nutty, the fruit and oak well matched. A long, nutty finish carries a citrus lift. This is a light, almond edged Speyside single malt.
