Description
Single malt Tormore, an independent Brave New Spirits bottling, an 11 year old Speyside malt, drawn from cask Batch No. 1 and bottled at 52.6%. Tormore, completed in 1960 on the A95 in the heart of Speyside, is one of Scotland's most striking distilleries. The granite buildings carry copper roofs and a musical clock that plays four Scottish songs each quarter hour.
Distilled in swan neck stills fitted with purifiers, on soft Achvochkie Burn water, giving the structured, nutty Speyside spirit. A refill American oak cask held it, keeping the clean character to the fore. Younger here, it keeps a clean, nutty freshness over orchard fruit. Years in oak round the spirit, the nut and orchard fruit deepening with age. Its granite buildings, copper roofs and musical clock earned it listed status in 1986. A workers' village was built nearby in the same striking style. Heat recovery condensers and sub coolers run alongside the purifier stills.
At 52.6%, undiluted, it is deep and nutty. The refill oak lending honey and vanilla runs under green apple, nut and a soft spice. It is fine and nutty, the fruit and oak well matched. The finish is dry, nutty and structured. This is a light, almond edged Speyside single malt.
