Description
Douglas Laing bottled this Tormore single malt, aged 10 year old and bottled at 46%. Just 337 bottles were filled. Built in the late 1950s beneath the Cromdale Hills in Speyside, Tormore is a grand Speyside distillery. It was granted listed building status in 1986, rare for a distillery so young.
The spirit was run through purifier stills for a light, clean spirit, to build a clean, citrussy, almond edged character. Ex-Bourbon casks held it, soft oak that lets the nut and fruit lead. At this age the spirit is fresh and nutty, the apple and citrus bright. Most Tormore matures off site, much of it in refill ex-Bourbon. It has used wood chips from local forestry to fire its stills since 1984. For most of its life its spirit vanished quietly into blends rather than into bottles of its own. Elixir Distillers bought Tormore in 2022 and are reviving it as a single malt brand. Most of the spirit matures off site, much of it in refill ex-Bourbon wood.
At 46% it is smooth and nutty. Melon, nut and a grassy note sit alongside soft vanilla and honey from the cask. It is clean and structured, the nutty spirit shining through. It finishes clean, fresh and nutty. This is Tormore's clean, nutty Speyside style.
