Description
An official Tormore single malt, a 10 year old Speyside malt and bottled at 43%. Tormore, built in 1958 by Long John Distillers a mile south of the River Spey, is one of Scotland's most striking distilleries. Elixir Distillers bought it in 2022 and are reviving it as a single malt brand.
It was drawn off the distillery's swan neck stills with their purifiers, for a delicate, ester rich spirit. Ex-Bourbon casks held it, soft oak that lets the nut and fruit lead. Still young, the malt is light and nutty with a citrus lift. A slightly oily texture carries the cask flavour over the clean spirit. Its rise in 1958 broke a long pause in distillery building that had lasted decades. The architect Sir Albert Richardson gave it a grand, ornamental design unlike any other distillery. Its granite buildings, copper roofs and musical clock earned it listed status in 1986. A workers' village was built nearby in the same striking style.
At 43% it is clean and citrussy. A gentle vanilla from the wood runs under green apple, nut and a soft spice. It is fine and nutty, the fruit and oak well matched. The finish is dry, nutty and structured. This is a light, almond edged Speyside single malt.
