Description
This is a Tormore single malt, chosen and bottled by Jewish Whisky Company matured to 10 year old from 2014, drawn from cask 170453 and bottled at 57.2%. A release of 300 bottles. Tormore was first built between 1958 and 1960 in the Spey valley near Grantown; its light malt long fed the Long John blend. Long a filler for the Long John and Ballantine's blends, Tormore was rarely seen as a single malt.
The spirit was made in copper stills whose purifiers keep the spirit light, for a light, nutty make of real clarity. Ex-Bourbon casks held it, soft oak that lets the nut and fruit lead. At a youthful age the fruit is lively and the almond clear. A patient maturation suits the light, nutty Tormore character. For most of its life its spirit vanished quietly into blends rather than into bottles of its own. Elixir Distillers bought Tormore in 2022 and are reviving it as a single malt brand.
Bottled at a cask strength 57.2%, it is rich. Vanilla and a light cream from the barrel runs under a clean, nutty character. A dried fruit and a dry oak spice give it depth. Almond and a dry oak see out the finish. This is a structured, nutty Speysider.
