Description
Torelló is a family winery in D.O. Penedès, the region south of Barcelona better known for its sparkling wines but increasingly recognised for expressive still whites. Gran Crisalys blends Xarel·lo, the area's characterful local grape, with Chardonnay, an international variety that adds flesh and roundness. Xarel·lo brings structure, acidity and a savoury depth, while Chardonnay lends breadth and ripe orchard fruit. The Mediterranean climate here is warm but moderated by proximity to the coast and by the altitude of the higher vineyards, which helps hold acidity. The wine is fermented and aged four months in French oak barrels, then rested a further twelve months in bottle before release. The oak phase rounds the texture through slow oxygen exchange and adds a light toasted, nutty note, while the extended bottle age integrates the wine and softens its edges. The result is pale gold, showing white peach, pear and lemon over almond, a touch of vanilla and fresh dough. The palate is medium bodied and balanced, its fruit fresh and its finish clean. Serve at 11 to 13 degrees in a white wine glass.
