Sound of Sleat is the fourth release in Torabhaig's Legacy Series, the bottlings that trace the Skye distillery's path towards a ten year old single malt. Torabhaig opened in 2017 as the island's second distillery, built by Mossburn Distillers in a restored farmstead at Teangue, looking out across the strait that gives this whisky its name.

After the sherried Cnoc Na Moine, Sound of Sleat returns to American oak, the heavily peated spirit matured to draw out the distillery's coastal character. It is bottled at 46 percent without chill filtration or added colour, a maturing snapshot of the well tempered peat house style. The heavily peated barley would make a fierce spirit at most distilleries, but Torabhaig's long fermentation and careful cut keep the smoke in check.

On the palate a maritime peat smoke meets honey, lemon and vanilla, with a fresh sea breeze and an oceanic, storm tossed character into the finish. The smoke is balanced and coastal, never overwhelming the sweetness beneath. A whisky that captures the rugged shore of Sleat, the latest chapter in the Torabhaig story. The Legacy Series runs towards a ten year old Torabhaig, the chapters charting the spirit as it matures.
