Description
A distillery bottling of Cu Bocan, bottled at 46%. Made at Tomatin in the Highland hills, Cù Bòcan is the distillery's peated single malt. Today it works twelve stills, having shifted from blend volume to single malt.
The spirit was made in copper stills from peated barley, for a smoky, fruity make. A refill bourbon cask held it, keeping the smoke to the fore. Carrying no age, it leans on wood smoke, apple and a sweet malt. Dunnage and racked warehousing on site gives a steady maturation. The distillery sits beside the A9, the old road north to Inverness. Cu Bocan focuses on unusual cask finishes, from sherry to wine and beyond. Tomatin stands at over three hundred metres, among the highest in the land. An old cattle drovers' road ran through Tomatin, and whisky was made here long before the distillery. The arrival of the Highland Railway in the 1890s made the distillery possible.
At an easy 46% it is light. Soft peat over apple and vanilla, and the oak lends vanilla and a soft sweetness. The texture is soft, the smoke threaded with fruit. The finish runs smoky, fruity and warm. This is a smoky Highland malt from Tomatin distillery.
