Description
This is a Tomatin, chosen and bottled by Jack Wiebers Whisky World, an 8 year old Highland malt and bottled at 58.6%. The outturn was 119 bottles. Tomatin is a Highland single malt distilled in the hills south of Inverness, where the distillery was founded in 1897. It was bought in 1986 by Takara Shuzo of Japan, the first Scotch distillery in Japanese hands.
Worked through onion stills for a light, fruity spirit, for the soft, fruity Highland make Tomatin is known for. Ex-Bourbon casks held it, soft oak that lets the fruit lead. Younger here, it keeps a light, fruity freshness over soft honey. Refill oak lets the fruity Tomatin character lead, apple over honey. The Antiquary blend came into the group through the blender J and W Hardie. Malt is bought in, the distillery's own floor maltings having closed in the 1980s. For most of its life the distillery rarely ran to its full capacity. The make is light and fruity, easy to like and easy to drink.
At a full 58.6% it is bold yet fruity. A mellow, fruity character, and the ex-Bourbon lends vanilla and a soft honey. Beneath it run apple, pear and a soft spice. It closes soft, fruity and warm. This is the softer side of the Highlands.
