Description
Bottled by The Vintage Malt Whisky Co Ltd, this Tomatin, aged 8 year old from 2013, drawn from cask 9531 and bottled at 57%. A release of 360 bottles. Tomatin is a Highland single malt distilled in the hills south of Inverness, where the distillery was founded in 1897. A very long fermentation, among the longest in Scotch, builds the fruity character.
Worked through onion stills for a light, fruity spirit, for the soft, fruity Highland make Tomatin is known for. A wine cask held it, layering fruit over the fruity malt. At a youthful age the orchard fruit is lively and the malt soft. The unpeated spirit lets the wood and the fruit speak without smoke. Cu Bocan focuses on unusual cask finishes, from sherry to wine and beyond. Tomatin stands at over three hundred metres, among the highest in the land. An old cattle drovers' road ran through Tomatin, and whisky was made here long before the distillery.
At 57%, undiluted, it is deep and fruity. A mellow, fruity character, and the Port cask adds plum and red berry. A baked apple and a gentle spice lift it. It finishes soft, fruity and clean. This is Tomatin's soft, fruity Highland style.
