Description
Single malt Tomatin, an independent The Whisky Agency bottling, a 30 year old Highland malt from 1990 and bottled at 48.9%. 180 bottles in all. Founded in 1897 high in the Monadhliath hills, Tomatin makes a soft, fruity Highland single malt. It was bought in 1986 by Takara Shuzo of Japan, the first Scotch distillery in Japanese hands.
Worked through onion stills for a light, fruity spirit, for the soft, fruity Highland make Tomatin is known for. It was matured in ex-Bourbon oak, lending vanilla and a soft honey. Very old Tomatin turns soft and profound, the fruit deep and the oak polished. Refill oak lets the fruity Tomatin character lead, apple over honey. For most of its life the distillery rarely ran to its full capacity. The make is light and fruity, easy to like and easy to drink. Special releases like Decades and Warehouse 6 have marked the distillery's milestones.
At a natural 48.9% it is full and fruity. A mellow, fruity character, and vanilla and a soft oak come from the bourbon wood. Soft orchard fruit and honey sit behind the cask. The close is soft, fruit over gentle oak. This is the soft, fruity Highland malt of Tomatin.
