Description
A Tomatin single malt, selected and bottled by Jack Wiebers Whisky World matured to 30 year old from 1976, drawn from cask 2601 and bottled at 55%. Only 273 bottles were released. Founded in 1897 high in the Monadhliath hills, Tomatin makes a soft, fruity Highland single malt. Today it works twelve stills, having shifted from blend volume to single malt.
The spirit was distilled from unpeated malt in copper stills on Allt na Frithe water, giving the light, mellow spirit at its heart. An ex-Bourbon barrel shaped it, vanilla beneath the orchard fruit. Decades leave it deep and gentle, candied fruit and a waxy honey with great age. Years in oak round the spirit, the orchard fruit deepening with age. Special releases like Decades and Warehouse 6 have marked the distillery's milestones. Cold, clean water runs down to the distillery from the hills above. Under Japanese stewardship the focus turned from sheer volume to quality.
At a natural 55% it is full and fruity. Apple, pear and a soft honey, and ex-Bourbon oak gives vanilla and a light apple. The texture is soft and round, the fruit lifted by honey. The finish runs gentle, fruity and mellow. This is a soft, approachable Highland malt.
