Description
From Dramfool comes this Tomatin, a 26 year old Highland malt from 1994, drawn from cask 6422 and bottled at 45.4%. Only 41 bottles were released. Tomatin is a Highland single malt distilled in the hills south of Inverness, where the distillery was founded in 1897. It was bought in 1986 by Takara Shuzo of Japan, the first Scotch distillery in Japanese hands.
Drawn off copper pot stills fed by the burn of the deer, for a soft, apple and pear scented spirit. A refill bourbon cask held it, keeping the fruit to the fore. Long ageing brings a deeper dried fruit character and a soft oak spice. The mellow make leans on the cask for much of its colour and flavour. For most of its life the distillery rarely ran to its full capacity. The make is light and fruity, easy to like and easy to drink. Special releases like Decades and Warehouse 6 have marked the distillery's milestones.
At cask strength 45.4% it is full bodied. A soft, fruity sweetness, and the ex-Bourbon lends vanilla and a soft honey. The texture is soft and round, the fruit lifted by honey. The finish runs gentle, fruity and mellow. This is a fruity Highland single malt from the Monadhliath hills.
