Description
Bottled by UD - bottler, this Tomatin, a 24 year old Highland malt from 1988 and bottled at 48.7%. A release of 70 bottles. Founded in 1897 high in the Monadhliath hills, Tomatin makes a soft, fruity Highland single malt. Today it works twelve stills, having shifted from blend volume to single malt.
The spirit was distilled slowly for the soft, fruity Tomatin make, building the approachable Tomatin style. Maturation came in ex-Bourbon wood, with vanilla and a soft apple. Beyond twenty years the malt grows deep and honeyed, dried fruit and oak spice over orchard fruit. The slow loss of the angel's share concentrates the fruity, malty core over time. Cu Bocan focuses on unusual cask finishes, from sherry to wine and beyond. Tomatin stands at over three hundred metres, among the highest in the land. An old cattle drovers' road ran through Tomatin, and whisky was made here long before the distillery.
Bottled at a cask strength 48.7%, it is rich. Apple, vanilla and a light spice, and the ex-Bourbon lends vanilla and a soft honey. A baked apple and a gentle spice lift it. It finishes soft, fruity and clean. This is Tomatin's soft, fruity Highland style.
