Description
An official Tomatin single malt, a 13 year old Highland malt, drawn from cask 52815 and bottled at 58.6%. Just 294 bottles were filled. Set in the Highland hills south of Inverness, Tomatin has made single malt since 1897. By 1974 Tomatin ran twenty three stills and was the largest malt distillery in Scotland.
It was drawn off copper pot stills fed by the burn of the deer, for a soft, apple and pear scented spirit. It rested in ex-Bourbon oak for a honeyed sweetness. By this age the soft spirit rounds into orchard fruit and a gentle oak. The mellow make leans on the cask for much of its colour and flavour. An old cattle drovers' road ran through Tomatin, and whisky was made here long before the distillery. The arrival of the Highland Railway in the 1890s made the distillery possible. It closed in 1906 and reopened in 1909, finding its feet over the following decades.
At a natural 58.6% it is full and fruity. A soft, fruity sweetness, and vanilla and a soft oak come from the bourbon wood. The mouthfeel is soft, the fruit carried on a mellow body. A long, honeyed finish carries a fruity lift. This is a gentle, fruity Highland single malt.
