Description
A Tomatin single malt, selected and bottled by Blackadder matured to 12 year old from 2008, drawn from cask 12006 and bottled at 59.5%. A release of 268 bottles. Founded in 1897 high in the Monadhliath hills, Tomatin makes a soft, fruity Highland single malt. Water comes from the Allt na Frithe, the burn of the deer, in the Monadhliath hills.
It was made in copper stills from unpeated barley, for a fruity, mellow make. It rested in ex-Bourbon oak for a honeyed sweetness. Around the mid teens the malt gains a fuller honey and ripe fruit. Dunnage and racked warehousing on site gives a steady maturation. For most of its life the distillery rarely ran to its full capacity. The make is light and fruity, easy to like and easy to drink. Special releases like Decades and Warehouse 6 have marked the distillery's milestones. Cold, clean water runs down to the distillery from the hills above.
Bottled at a cask strength 59.5%, it is rich. Pear, honey and a malty note, and ex-Bourbon oak gives vanilla and a light apple. It is fruity and soft, the fruit and oak well matched. The finish is rounded, honeyed and gentle. This is a soft, approachable Highland malt.
