Tobermory Batch 3 (TBWC)

That Boutique-y Whisky Company selected this Tobermory, bottled at 48.1%. 208 bottles in all. Made on the Isle of Mull, Tobermory is the unpeated single malt of the island's sole distillery. Its history is famously broken, with long silences; the buildings once held holiday lets and stored cheese.

Drawn off stills with their S shaped lyne arms, for a medium bodied, fruity spirit. A refill bourbon cask held it, keeping the fruit to the fore. With no age statement, it shows the waxy, fruity body of Tobermory. Long maturation turns the green young spirit towards honey and ripe fruit. Its painted home town gives the unpeated malt its name. A rare, more heavily peated make has appeared under the name Iona, after a neighbouring isle. In dry summers the distillery has paused when its hill loch ran low. The distillery sits at the head of the bay, beneath a steep wooded hill. Both malts feed the Scottish Leader and Black Bottle blends as well as single malt.

At cask strength 48.1% it is muscular. Green apple, citrus and a herbal lift, and the refill bourbon lends a quiet vanilla. It is fruity and full, the oily spirit shining through. It closes long, waxy and fruity. This is Tobermory's oily, unpeated island single malt.
