Bottled by Claxton's, this Tobermory matured to 29 year old from 1994, drawn from cask C23102 and bottled at 51.5%. Just 197 bottles were filled. Tobermory, the unpeated malt of the Isle of Mull, comes from one of Scotland's oldest distilleries. Burn Stewart revived the distillery in 1993, and Distell of South Africa bought it in 2013.

The spirit was worked through the boil ball stills for an oily, fruity make, for the waxy, fruity spirit Tobermory is known for. A refill bourbon cask held it, keeping the fruit to the fore. Decades leave it deep and oily, candied fruit and beeswax with great age. Refill oak lets the fruity, waxy Tobermory character lead. The distillery's history is broken by long silences; its buildings once stored a local cheddar. Burn Stewart revived production in 1993, and Distell bought the distillery in 2013. The stills carry boil bulbs and a kink in the lyne arms, which lifts the reflux.

Undiluted at 51.5%, it is powerful. A fruity, waxy sweetness, and vanilla and a soft oak come from the bourbon wood. Soft orchard fruit and wax sit behind the cask. It closes long, waxy and fruity. This is a waxy, fruity island single malt.
