Description
Titanic Distillers put their name to this no age statement Irish blend, released in 2021 as the 401 Limited Bottling, the number recalling the yard number under which the liner was built on the Belfast slipways. The whiskey itself is sourced from The Great Northern Distillery in Dundalk, Co. Louth, the independent powerhouse founded by John Teeling in 2015 that quietly supplies much of modern Irish whiskey, and this release was bottled for the European market.
Maturation is in Ex-Bourbon American oak, the backbone cask of Irish whiskey, laying down vanilla, toffee and soft coconut over gentle orchard fruit and cereal sweetness. At 40% it is an easy, rounded pour in the classic blended style, light on the palate and made for sociable drinking, with the bonder tradition of naming the source rather than inventing a pedigree worn openly on the label.
