Tiro al Blanco makes this Galician Ribeiro red from indigenous Brancellao, Caíño Tinto and Souson, farmed biodynamically. Light at 12.5% and made for freshness, it shows red fruit, a floral note and a savoury, herbal edge.
Description
Tiro al Blanco is a Galician project from O Morto Wines, drawing on the new wave of producers reviving native varieties in Spain's wet, green north-west. This Ribeiro red blends Brancellao, Caíño Tinto and Souson, all indigenous grapes that give bright colour, high acidity and modest alcohol rather than weight. The farming is biodynamic, organic and vegan, with minimal handling in the cellar, the aim being a fresh, transparent wine rather than an extracted one. Galicia's Atlantic climate is cool and damp, and the granite soils of Ribeiro hold acidity high and keep the fruit red-toned and lively. The wine is built for freshness and drinks as a light red. The colour is bright, medium ruby. The nose shows red cherry and raspberry, a subtle floral aroma and a hint of spice. The palate is light and crisp, with vivid acidity, fine grainy tannins and a savoury, herbal finish. This is a red that takes a light chill well. Serve at 13 to 15 degrees. It suits lighter dishes, roast poultry, charcuterie and even oily fish.
