A Marie-Galante agricole from German bottler TimberCoast under its Avontuur label, fresh cane juice spirit aged three years in ex-bourbon wood and bottled unsweetened at 40%, grassy and dry in the island style.
Description
TimberCoast is a German independent bottler, and this Avontuur Caribbean Blue draws on agricole rum from Marie-Galante, made from fresh pressed sugar cane juice rather than molasses. Distilled in 2015, it was aged around three years in ex-bourbon casks and bottled unsweetened at 40%.
Expect the agricole house style with a little oak rounding, a grassy, herbaceous core picking up vanilla and light baking spice from the bourbon wood, dry rather than sweet. At a sociable 40% it is approachable neat and works equally well in a stirred agricole serve.
