Description
Tilenus Godello Monteseiros is a single-variety Godello from Bodegas Estefanía, founded in 1999 by the Frías family in an old dairy at Dehesas, Ponferrada, in D.O. Bierzo. The name recalls Mount Teleno, the high peak the Romans revered above León. Bierzo sits in a sheltered valley in Castilla y León, its climate a mild blend of Atlantic and continental influences, with slate and clay soils that give Godello structure and a mineral character. Godello is a full-bodied white with good acidity, and here it is made in a fresh, unoaked style: cool fermentation with no barrel ageing keeps the primary fruit clear and the texture clean, while the grape's natural weight fills out the palate on its own. The wine is certified organic. The colour is pale with a green tint. The nose is fresh and open, showing white peach and pear with melon, citrus peel and a hint of white flowers. The palate is medium bodied and rounded, the ripe stonefruit balanced by firm acidity and a stony, mineral finish. Serve well chilled at 9 to 11 degrees with white fish, seafood, roast chicken or pork.
