Tiberio farm an old vineyard of true Trebbiano d’Abruzzo, a grape often confused with lesser relatives. Grown organically in the hills of Cugnoli, this is a precise, mineral white of lemon, grapefruit and jasmine.
Description
Azienda Tiberio was established when Riccardo Tiberio found an old vineyard of genuine Trebbiano d'Abruzzo in the hills of Cugnoli, a distinct variety long confused with the more common Trebbiano Toscano. His children Antonio and Cristiana now run the estate, which farms organically. The vineyards sit at altitude in the Abruzzo hills between the Apennine mountains and the Adriatic sea, on limestone rich soils that give the wines their tension and salinity. The combination of mountain altitude and sea breezes creates a large diurnal range, cool nights that preserve aromatic freshness and acidity through the warm days. Yields are kept low to concentrate the fruit, and the wine is made to express site and grape directly, without oak, so the primary character stays clear and precise. True Trebbiano d'Abruzzo is a slow, mineral white rather than a simple one. The wine is pale straw and opens with lemon, grapefruit and white flowers such as jasmine, with a gentle herbal lift. The palate is dry, taut and linear, with high, clean acidity, a stony mineral core and a long saline, faintly almond finish. Serve well chilled at 9 to 11 degrees. It makes a fine aperitif and suits lighter fish dishes.
