Celler Tianna Negre makes this Mallorcan red in Binissalem from the island grape Manto Negro with Cabernet Sauvignon, Syrah, Callet and Merlot. Eight months in French oak give red berry and plum fruit over Mediterranean herbs and a savoury, peppery finish.
Description
Tianna Bocchoris Negre is made by Celler Tianna Negre in Binissalem, on Mallorca. The Morey-Garau family and Bodegas Túnel built the project from a first garage vintage in 2007 into a modern winery designed to protect the fruit through gentle handling. The blend centres on Manto Negro, the soft, perfumed native red of Binissalem, supported by Cabernet Sauvignon, Syrah, Callet and Merlot. The island's vineyards sit on limestone and clay soils under a warm Mediterranean climate, where sea breezes and cool nights temper the heat and keep the wine fresh rather than heavy. Manto Negro is naturally low in colour and tannin, so the international grapes lend backbone while the local varieties bring lift and the scent of garrigue. Ageing is eight months in French oak, a measured spell that rounds the tannins through slow oxygen exchange without burying the fruit. The colour is medium ruby. The nose shows red berries, plum and dried Mediterranean herbs over a touch of pepper and vanilla. The palate is medium-bodied and savoury, with supple tannin, fresh acidity and an earthy, herb-tinged finish. Serve at 16 degrees. It suits roast lamb and grilled meats.
