A low strength Martinique arrangé from Les Rhums de Ced, fresh cane juice rum steeped with pineapple and salted butter caramel then rounded in Sauternes and cognac casks, sweet and dessert leaning at 32%.
Description
Part of the Ti Arranges de Ced range out of Martinique, this is an arrange rather than a straight agricole, a fresh cane juice rhum infused with pineapple and a salted butter caramel idea, with Sauternes and cognac casks lending a sweet wine and brandy edge. The base is column distilled Martinique cane juice, so there is a green agricole thread underneath, but the maceration and the dessert wine influence push it firmly into flavoured territory.
Expect a buttery, salty caramel aroma wrapped around ripe pineapple, with that tropical fruit running right through the palate. At 32% and openly sweetened by the fruit and sugar of the arrange, it drinks soft and sippable rather than dry, closer to a confected after dinner pour than a serious aged rhum. The pineapple is assertive and can crowd the salted caramel, so this suits anyone who likes their rum fruity and sweet over a single large cube of ice.
