Description
Thierry Mortet Gevrey-Chambertin Vigne Belle is a single-variety Pinot Noir from the A.O.C. Gevrey-Chambertin on Burgundy's Côte d'Or, made biodynamically by Domaine Thierry Mortet. The wine is drawn from twenty separate plots totalling three hectares, where the soils are mainly clay and silt and the vine age ranges from 15 to 60 years. This patchwork is part of the Gevrey character: clay-rich, deeper soils give the appellation its fuller body and firmer structure compared with lighter Côte de Nuits villages, while the older vines add depth and concentration. Burgundy's cool continental climate ripens Pinot Noir slowly and preserves acidity. The grapes are harvested by hand and sorted in the vineyard and winery, then fermented and aged in oak barrel, where measured oxygen exchange softens the tannins without masking the fruit. It is medium to deep ruby, the nose led by dark cherry, raspberry and plum over earth, spice and a savoury, mineral depth. The palate is medium bodied, structured and firm for a village wine, with fine tannins and a long finish. Serve at 15 to 17 degrees in a large glass. It suits roast and braised meats, game and mushrooms.
