    The Yamazaki 25 Year Old

    Core
    700ml / 43%
    Single Malt

    $8849

The post-2021 release of Yamazaki 25 Year Old represents a new chapter in the legacy of this prestigious Japanese whisky. Suntory reimagined this expression by broadening the cask composition, moving away from the exclusively sherry-cask maturation that defined the original release. The new version blends whiskies aged in American oak, Mizunara oak, and sherry casks, resulting in a more balanced and complex profile. While the sherry cask influence remains present, adding rich notes of dark fruits and spices, the introduction of American oak brings sweetness, vanilla, and caramel into the mix. Meanwhile, the Mizunara oak, often referred to as Japanese oak, introduces exotic elements such as sandalwood, coconut, and subtle spices, which elevate the overall depth of the whisky.

Despite the changes in production, the updated Yamazaki 25 Year Old has maintained its status as a highly sought-after and scarce whisky. The rarity of Mizunara oak casks, in particular, contributes to the limited availability of this expression, as Mizunara trees are slow-growing and challenging to work with, making the casks both expensive and rare. The whisky's scarcity, combined with its more refined and complex flavor profile, has continued to attract attention on the international stage. Its crowning achievement came in 2023, when it won the prestigious Supreme Champion Spirit award at the International Spirits Challenge, further solidifying its reputation as one of the finest whiskies in the world.
