A cask-strength single-cask Hampden HLCF from 1998, bottled by The Wild Parrot at 19 years, oily and intense with pineapple, mango, banana and solvent funk over a meaty, oak-driven finish at 62%.
Description
The Wild Parrot Hampden HLCF 1998 is a single cask from Trelawny's Hampden estate, the reference point for high-ester Jamaican funk, bottled at full cask strength after 19 years. HLCF sits high in Hampden's marque ladder, and the rum delivers the house signature in full: ripe banana, pineapple and overripe mango wrapped around acetone and glue-like solvent on the nose.
Distilled on Hampden's double-retort pot stills from molasses and matured in ex-bourbon oak, it shows the classic oily, mouth-coating Hampden weight. Caramel and pastry sweetness balance the fruit, while the finish turns toward oak, roast, green pepper and a meaty, savoury edge. At 62% and unsweetened, this is concentrated, divisive and unmistakably Hampden, built for drinkers who chase ester intensity and the elegant, oily heaviness that defines the distillery.
