A twenty year Spanish-style single cask from 1998, bottled by The Whisky Cask Company at cask strength 50.1% after whisky-cask maturation, soft and dessert-sweet with toffee, mango, papaya and white chocolate.
Description
This 1998 vintage was selected and bottled by The Whisky Cask Company under its twcc label, a single cask of Spanish-style rum carried to twenty years of age and offered at natural cask strength of 50.1%. The Spanish school it comes from favours a light, smooth, column-led character, and this maturation took place in a whisky cask rather than the usual bourbon barrel.
The profile is gentle and sweet rather than intense. Toffee and white chocolate lead, with ripe mango and papaya bringing a tropical lift across both nose and palate. Reactions note it drinks softer and lighter in flavour volume than its two decades and its proof might promise, with the alcohol not always fully knitted in, which is a common trait of long-aged Spanish-style rum. Taken on its own terms it is a smooth, fruity, mellow single cask for relaxed sipping rather than a powerhouse, with the whisky cask adding a quiet extra layer.
