Description
The Story of the Spaniard The Signature Range CB (Compass Box) is a blended malt Scotch from Compass Box. It vats malts from several distilleries, Dailuaine lending a soft Speyside heart. Most of its make goes to blending, with a Flora and Fauna sixteen year old the regular single malt.
The Dailuaine within gives a gentle apple and pear note. Maturation in an Oloroso cask laid dried fruit over the meaty, malty spirit. The rich, full bodied spirit takes cask flavour well, especially sherry wood. A first fill sherry cask suits the robust spirit, dried fruit meeting the meaty weight. Refill oak lets the robust Dailuaine character lead, malt and dried fruit beneath. In 1889 it became the first distillery to use the pagoda roof, the Doig Ventilator designed by Charles Doig. Years in oak round the spirit, the fruit deepening to dried fruit and a savoury spice. The distillery was founded in 1852 by William Mackenzie on the banks of the Spey at Carron.
At 43% it is smooth and honeyed. Soft orchard fruit, honey and a gentle spice run through it, smooth and approachable. Dried fruit, malt and a savoury spice fill the middle. The finish is long, rich and savoury. A characterful blended malt Scotch.
