Description
The Spice Tree The Signature Range CB Blended Malt Scotch Whisky (Compass Box) is a blended malt Scotch from Compass Box. It marries single malts from more than one distillery, Clynelish among them. Water comes from the Clynemilton Burn, the spirit drawn off three wash and three spirit stills.
Clynelish lends an oily, waxy Highland texture to the blend. A wine cask shaped it, the fruit meeting the waxy, coastal spirit. Active wood frames the citrus without smothering the waxy texture. The original Clynelish was founded in 1819 by the Marquess of Stafford during the Highland Clearances. The famous wax is said to come from the build up in the distillery's feints receivers. Most of its make goes to blending, with a fourteen year old the flagship single malt. The unpeated make leans on texture and citrus, the cask adding depth. The waxy, oily spirit takes cask flavour well while keeping its citrus and coast.
Reduced to 46%, it is supple. A waxy, oily texture runs through it, with citrus, honey and a coastal lift. It is waxy and citrussy, the oily spirit shining through. The close is long, wax over a citrus lift. A characterful blended malt Scotch.
