Description
This official Glendullan, at 40%. Glendullan is a fresh, grassy Speyside malt of orchard fruit and a malty sweetness. The founding firm merged into Macdonald Greenlees and was absorbed by DCL in 1926, a forerunner of Diageo. Its founder also struck an exclusive supply deal with neighbouring Glenfiddich. It runs long fermentations and a slow distillation for a green, grassy, lightly fruity spirit. Since 2007 its single malt has been bottled as the Singleton of Glendullan, aimed at the United States.
It was taken gently through wash and spirit stills, shaping a green, malty Speyside character. It was matured in refill ex-Bourbon oak, a soft vanilla beneath the fruit. Without an age statement, a fresh pear note and vanilla point to good years in cask. A light, clean texture from the spirit carries through the maturation. Maturation runs slow and even in the warehouses at Dufftown. First fill wood drives the maturation, the cask clear in the light spirit.
Bottled at 40%, it is light and creamy. Pear, citrus and a soft barley, lifted by a soft oak. A green apple and a gentle citrus lift the middle. The finish is light, fruity and clean. This is Glendullan's green, lightly fruity Speyside style.
