Description
A Glendullan, a distillery bottling, at 44.8%. Glendullan is a fresh, grassy Speyside malt of orchard fruit and a malty sweetness. A second distillery was built alongside the original in 1972, the two running together until the old plant closed in 1985. It was the last of the Dufftown stills, the town said to stand on seven stills as Rome stands on seven hills. It was built in 1897 by William Williams and Sons, Aberdeen blenders, the seventh and last distillery raised in Dufftown.
It was distilled from unpeated malt, building a clean malt of orchard fruit and a grassy edge. It was matured in Pedro Ximenez, Palo Cortado and Marsala casks, each wood lending to the orchard fruit. With no age statement, vanillin reads as vanilla and oak lactones as coconut over the light, fruity spirit. Years in oak deepen the spirit to gold, the body growing rounder with time.
At an approachable 44.8% it is fresh and clean. A fresh orchard fruit and a malty sweetness, with raisin, date and treacle from the cask. The mouthfeel is light and clean, carrying the fruit. A medium finish carries a soft honey. This is the lightly fruity malt of Dufftown.
