Description
Glendullan from the distillery, a 15 year old, at 40%. Glendullan is a Speyside single malt, long a blending malt and now a name in its own right. Its founder also struck an exclusive supply deal with neighbouring Glenfiddich. Since 2007 its single malt has been bottled as the Singleton of Glendullan, aimed at the United States.
Run slowly off the spirit still, for a fresh, fruity spirit with a light body. A bourbon barrel held it, the wood adding a soft honey over the orchard fruit. Through oxidative maturity the esters concentrate, the orchard fruit turning to mango, pineapple and a waxy honey. Long ageing turns the fresh green notes towards orchard fruit, honey and a gentle spice. Active wood frames the fruit without ever crowding the light Speyside spirit. A light, clean texture from the spirit carries through the maturation. Maturation runs slow and even in the warehouses at Dufftown.
At 40% it is fruity, creamy and soft. Green apple, pear and a light grass, lifted by a soft oak. A green apple and a gentle citrus lift the middle. The finish runs fresh, grassy and clean. This is a fresh, grassy Speyside single malt.
