Description
A Singleton of Dufftown, a distillery bottling, at 40%. Dufftown is a nutty, spicy Speyside malt, for decades the heart of the Bell's blend. Eight warehouses on site hold close to 100,000 casks of maturing malt.
The spirit was distilled for the nutty, malty character Dufftown is known for, for a clean, malty Speyside spirit. A bourbon barrel held it, the wood adding a light vanilla and a soft honey. With no age statement, the oak has given vanillin as vanilla and oak lactones as coconut over the nutty, malty spirit. Long ageing turns the fresh apple towards honey, dried fruit and a soft spice. The clean, grassy spirit shows the cask clearly, vanilla and honey to the fore. The Singleton style leans on a mix of ex-Bourbon and ex-Sherry oak. It became the heart of the Bell's blend after Arthur Bell and Sons bought it in 1933. The Singleton of Dufftown is matured in a mix of ex-Bourbon and ex-Sherry oak.
At 40% it is smooth and nutty. Honey, nut and a touch of spice, with a soft vanilla from the oak. The mouthfeel is smooth, the fruit carried on a malty body. The finish is rounded, malty and gently spiced. This is the workhorse malt of Dufftown.
