A cask strength single cask Foursquare from 2013 at ten years and a hefty 64.9%, dense with dried fruit, coconut, vanilla and praline over barrel and wood, unsweetened and built for drinkers who want full power.
Description
Bottled by The Nectar for its Of The Daily Drams line, this is a single cask Foursquare from 2013, the dry, additive-free Barbados rum from Richard Seale's St Philip distillery, where double-retort pot still is blended with twin-column Coffey rum. At ten years and a full 64.9%, it is the muscular, high-strength end of the house style.
The molasses spirit, aged in ex-bourbon oak, shows dried fruit, coconut, barrel and vanilla on the nose, then vanilla, dried fruit, wood and praline on the palate, with coconut, barrel and vanilla carrying the finish. It is rich and concentrated, the kind of unsweetened Foursquare aimed at drinkers fed up with sugar and looking for a serious sipper. The 64.9% runs hot, so a little water or a long rest helps it open, but the classic Bajan character is all there.
