Roasted wood, dried fruit, plum and dark chocolate run through this 21 Year Old Enmore EHP from The Nectar, a single cask off the wooden Coffey still that drinks surprisingly mild and restrained for 50.1 percent.
Description
The Nectar bottled this single cask of Enmore carrying the EHP marque from the 2002 vintage for its Nectar of the Daily Drams line, twenty-one years old. EHP comes off the Enmore wooden Coffey still, the last operating wooden Coffey anywhere, whose continuous distillation gives a lighter, more cedar led profile than the heavy pot stills.
Molasses based and matured in ex-bourbon oak, it leads with a fruity, marzipan tinged nose before turning to roasted wood, dried fruit, plum, anise and dark chocolate. The palate stays mild and fruit led with vanilla, and the finish runs medium with barrel and roasted notes. Despite a well aged build and 50.1 percent strength, it comes across as surprisingly restrained and easy rather than powerful. A calmer, wood driven Enmore for drinkers who want maturity without intensity.
