Coffee, dark chocolate and dried fruit with leather and a touch of vanilla, this 21 year old Diamond off the Coffey still is a dark, elegant Demerara, unsweetened and very easy at a well-judged 50.2%.
Description
The Nectar bottled this single cask Diamond from 2001 for its Nectar of the Daily Drams range, with 21 years of age. This expression runs off a Coffey column still, giving a cleaner continuous-still base that two decades in oak have darkened and deepened considerably.
Matured in ex-bourbon and bottled unsweetened at 50.2%, it leans into coffee, dark chocolate and dried fruit with leather and a soft vanilla edge, the alcohol well integrated and the profile more relaxed than aggressive. Some drinkers find it pleasingly direct, all chocolate and coffee from start to finish, with a roasted close. The honest, dark, unsweetened character and forgiving strength make it an approachable way into older Demerara, best sipped neat rather than mixed.
